What happens if I keep an answer private?
A private answer is never shown to anyone you’re introduced to and is never used as a reason for an introduction. The trade-off is that it can’t meet anyone else’s dealbreaker. So if you keep your religion private, you won’t be introduced to people who have made religion a dealbreaker. You can change this at any time.
Which answers can be private
Each of these has a Keep this private switch:
- How many children you’d like, and when
- Do you have children?
- Religion, and how much faith is part of your life
- Whether you’d consider converting
- Diet
- Smoking
- Drinking
- Your money style
- Ethnicity
- Highest education
Some of these are never shown on your profile anyway, such as how many children you’d like or your money style. Keeping them private still changes how they’re used: they then can’t meet anyone’s dealbreaker or preference.
Whether you want children and when you’d like to marry can’t be private. They’re never shown on your profile, but matching always uses them, because a clash there can’t be bridged. How active you are, the languages you speak and your interests are always visible if you answer them. Apart from the required questions, you can leave any question unanswered.
What private means
- Not shown: No other member sees a private answer, on your profile or anywhere else.
- Never a reason: Reasons come only from answers you both made visible, so a reason can never reveal what you hid.
- Doesn’t meet dealbreakers: If someone has made that question a dealbreaker, a private answer doesn’t count as meeting it. Otherwise the introduction itself would give your answer away.
- Doesn’t count in anyone else’s preferences: Other members’ preferences can’t use what you’ve kept private.
Change it
Go to Profile, then Your answers, and tap Edit. Turn Keep this private on or off for each answer, then tap Save changes.
