How does “How you communicate” work?

You go through a set of everyday either-or pairs, such as “I get straight to the point” or “I walk through the details”, and tap the dot nearer the one that sounds more like you. From these we write up to three short lines for your introductions: your pace and focus with a tip for getting to know you, your daily rhythm, and how you handle disagreements. There are no better or worse answers: every style has its strengths.

Pace and focus

Ten pairs place you on two everyday scales:

  • Pace: quick and direct, calm and considered, or balanced. This is about how fast you like to decide and speak up.
  • Focus: people first, plans first, or balanced. This is about whether you tend to lead with the relationship or the task.

Your line reads, for example, “Pace: calm and considered · Focus: people first”, followed by a short tip such as giving you time to feel at ease. If you’re near the middle on both, it says you’re balanced.

When there’s a disagreement

Two more pairs ask whether you’d rather talk a disagreement through straight away or take some time first, and whether you usually talk about what’s on your mind or work through it on your own first. Your line puts this in a sentence. If you’re in the middle on both, there’s no line.

Your rhythm

Two questions ask when you usually wake up on a free day and how often you like to text while getting to know someone. Your line reads, for example, “Night owl · Texts a few times a day”.

These two are the only answers in this section that count in matching, and only a little: an early riser and a night owl, or someone who texts all day and someone who texts only to plan, fit slightly less well.

What it isn’t

  • It doesn’t change who you’re introduced to, apart from your rhythm answers.
  • It isn’t a personality test or a judgement. It describes how you tend to come across, so the other person knows how to start well.
  • Your individual answers are never shown. Only the lines you’ve left on.

Retake or hide it

Go to Profile, then Getting to know you. Turn any line off under What your matches see, or open the section again to retake it. Each retake starts fresh.
