Why can’t I send links or phone numbers in chat?

For your first 14 days after your identity is verified, Steade won’t send messages that contain links, phone numbers or messaging app handles. Every new account has this rule, however it was verified. It slows down scammers, who often try to move people off the app quickly. After 14 days, you can share them if you choose to.

What you’ll see

While the rule applies, a line above the message box says Links and phone numbers unlock after your first 14 days.

If you try to send a message with a link, a phone number or a handle such as a Telegram or WhatsApp username, it isn’t sent. Your message stays in the box so you can edit it and send it again.

Why it’s there

Romance and investment scams that start on dating apps often follow the same pattern: move the conversation to another app quickly, then bring up money, crypto or an investment. Keeping new accounts in Steade’s chat for their first two weeks makes that harder.

You never have to share your number. Keep talking on Steade until you’re comfortable.

When someone else shares contact details

If someone sends you a link, a phone number or a messaging app handle, Steade shows you a short reminder under their message: scammers often ask to move to another app quickly, so take your time, and never send money.
