Singpass-verified dating in Singapore: what it tells you
By Vincent Emmanuel Lee, founder of Steade · Last reviewed 17/Oct/2026
A Singpass-verified dating profile means the service has confirmed, through Singapore’s national digital identity, that the person is real and has the date of birth and other details they claim. It does not tell you whether they are kind, single, honest about what they want, or safe to meet. Verification removes a lot of fake accounts. It doesn’t remove the need for ordinary care.
Which dating services in Singapore use Singpass
As of October 2026, these services say they check identity with Singpass:
| Service | Who can join | Is Singpass required? |
|---|---|---|
| FirstDate (GovTech pilot) | Public officers aged 21 to 45 | Yes |
| Coffee Meets Bagel | Adults in Singapore | Offered to Singapore users; verified members can filter out unverified profiles |
| PerfectPairing | Singaporeans | The service says every user is verified with Singpass |
| Steade | Adults resident in Singapore | Every member is checked, with Singpass or, for people without Singpass, a moderator’s review of an NRIC or Singapore pass and a selfie |
Services change. Check each one’s own page before you sign up.
What Singpass verification confirms
When you verify with Singpass, you log in to Singpass and agree to share specific details from government records with the service. Which details depend on what the service asks for. They are typically your name or NRIC or FIN number, date of birth and sex. Coffee Meets Bagel, for example, retrieves NRIC or FIN, date of birth, marital status and gender.
That gives you a few useful facts about a verified member:
- They are a real person with a Singapore identity.
- Their age is their real age.
- They can’t easily open a second account after being banned, if the service blocks duplicates.
What verification can’t tell you
- Their intentions. A verified person can still want something casual, or be dishonest about what they want.
- Their relationship status, unless the service asks for it and shows it.
- Whether their photos are recent.
- Whether they are safe to meet.
Scammers also try to get around checks. The Singapore Police Force’s 2025 scam brief lists giving Singpass credentials to scammers among the scam-mule offences that can now be punished with caning. People do hand over their accounts. Treat a verified badge as one good sign, not proof of good intentions.
Why a dating service may ask for your NRIC
Singapore’s Personal Data Protection Commission limits when organisations can collect NRIC numbers. Under its advisory guidelines, an organisation generally may collect an NRIC number or a copy of the card only when the law requires it, or when it is necessary to establish or verify someone’s identity to a high degree of fidelity. A dating service that promises verified members can fall under the second case, but it should still collect as little as it needs and protect it.
Questions to ask before you verify
- What exactly will be shared? Singpass shows you the list of details before you agree. Read it.
- Is my NRIC number stored, and how? A careful service keeps only what it needs, such as a one-way code to stop duplicate accounts, not the number in plain text.
- What happens to document photos if I verify without Singpass? Ask when they’re deleted.
- Who can see what? Other members should see that you’re verified, not your NRIC, date of birth or full name.
- Is verification required for everyone? If it’s optional, an unverified profile could still be fake.
Staying safe with verified matches
Keep the usual habits even when someone is verified:
- Keep talking inside the app until you’re comfortable. You don’t have to share your number to get to know someone.
- Meet in a public place for the first time, tell a friend where you’ll be, and get there on your own.
- Never send money, gift cards or crypto to someone you’ve met online, and don’t “invest” on their advice.
- If something feels wrong, end the conversation, block and report.

How Steade checks identity
Every Steade member’s identity is checked before their profile goes live. With Singpass, you agree to share your date of birth, sex and NRIC or FIN number, and you’re verified straight away. Without Singpass, you upload a photo of your NRIC or Singapore pass and take a selfie in the app; a moderator checks them, usually within 2 working days, and the images are deleted as soon as the review is decided, within 7 days at most. Either way, Steade keeps your date of birth and sex. Your NRIC or FIN is used only to make a one-way code that stops anyone opening two accounts, and is never stored in readable form or shown to anyone.
The check tells other members you’re a real adult whose identity has been confirmed. It doesn’t tell them your intentions, so Steade’s community rules apply to everyone, and report and block are on every introduction and conversation. For your first 14 days, links and phone numbers can’t be sent in chat.
Steade is open for sign-up. Introductions start once most members have at least five people who fit them both ways. You can create your account, or read how the identity check works in the help centre.
Frequently asked questions
Is there a Singpass-verified dating app in Singapore?
Yes. FirstDate (for public officers aged 21 to 45) requires Singpass. Coffee Meets Bagel offers Singpass verification to Singapore users. PerfectPairing says all its users are Singpass-verified. Steade checks every member, with Singpass or, for people without Singpass, a document and selfie review.
Is it safe to use Singpass on a dating app?
It’s as safe as the service’s handling of your data. Singpass shows you which details will be shared before you agree. Ask the service what it stores, how it protects your NRIC number, and who can see what.
Does a verified profile mean the person isn’t a scammer?
No. It means their identity was checked. It doesn’t confirm their intentions. Never send money to someone you’ve met online, verified or not.
Can foreigners use Singpass-verified dating apps?
Foreigners who hold a Singpass account can usually use it. Some services also offer a document check for people without Singpass. Check each service’s rules.
