About Steade

Steade is a free dating service in Singapore. Instead of a feed to swipe, members get at most one introduction per round, every Tuesday and Friday at 8 pm, with up to three plain reasons for it. Chat opens only if both people say yes. Every member’s identity is checked.

The name is an old spelling of “stead”, as in steady and steadfast. Steade runs on infrastructure its operator, Huper Technology, already owns, so it costs little to keep running, and there is no paid tier planned.

How it works

  1. Identity check. Before anyone can be introduced, each member verifies with Singpass or, without Singpass, sends a photo of their NRIC or Singapore pass and a selfie for a moderator to review. Steade keeps only date of birth and sex. The NRIC or FIN number becomes a one-way code that blocks duplicate accounts, and document images are deleted once the review is decided.
  2. Say what matters. Every answer can be a preference, which changes who ranks higher, or a dealbreaker, which rules people out. Age range always applies, plus up to three other dealbreakers. A few rules apply to everyone, such as never introducing someone who wants children to someone who doesn’t.
  3. One introduction. Each round uses stable matching, the idea behind school and hospital placements, so that no two people would both rather have been introduced to each other. Members see up to three factual reasons, never a score. If there’s no introduction that round, the app says so.
  4. 48 hours to decide. Neither person sees the other’s answer until both have chosen.
  5. Talk in the app. Messaging opens when both accept. For a new account’s first 14 days, links and phone numbers can’t be sent.

Quotable facts

Sign-up opened on 5 October 2026. Steade hasn’t started matching yet, so there are no member or outcome figures. Introductions begin once at least 70% of members have five or more suitable candidates, which keeps waits reasonable. Matching finds people who meet each other’s stated wishes; whether there’s a spark is up to them. Steade never promises a perfect match or an introduction every round.

Story ideas

  • After the swipe. Why people who want something serious are leaving feed-based apps, and what a slower format looks like.
  • The maths of matching. A Nobel-winning method from economics, applied to a real dating pool, and what it can’t promise.
  • Free, on purpose. Why a dating service would choose not to charge, and how it’s funded.
  • Safety by design. Identity checks, a 14-day probation for new accounts and in-app chat, in a country where dating scams are common.

“I built Steade to help more single people in Singapore find a partner, at a time when the country is paying real attention to it. I don’t think anyone needs twenty options to choose from. Too much choice works against you when it’s time to decide. You need time to get to know one person, and a conversation without distractions. That’s why Steade always gives you one introduction at a time.”
